Insured Patients

Pulse Veins is a specialist medical practice and its specialists are vocationally registered medical specialists with the New Zealand Medical Council. We provide services for all New Zealand private health insurance companies, and for some internationally-based health insurance companies.

Most insurers provide cover for varicose vein treatment where there are significant medical concerns such as pain and varicose vein complications such as eczema, infections, ulcers, bleeding and blood clots. In general, purely cosmetic concerns are not covered by health insurers.

Treatment Costs

Simple, upfront pricing

Every treatment starts with a free phone consultation with one of our specialist vascular nurses. They'll assess your veins, explain your options, and give you a clear price before you commit to anything. If you'd prefer to be seen in person first, you can book a nurse consult ($100) or a specialist consult ($340).

All treatments are performed by our medical specialists, and all follow-up appointments are included until your treatment is complete.

Affiliated Providers

Affiliated Providers & Direct Billing

Southern Cross Healthcare and NIB provide affiliated provider, fixed reimbursement programmes for varicose vein treatment. Under these schemes, we agree to provide treatment for a fixed cost, ensuring there are no extra costs for the patient when treatment has been completed. These schemes have been well received by patients.

For the other health insurance providers, we will provide a quote for treatment, which can be submitted for approval. Follow up until treatment is complete is included in this quote – usually around the 6–12 month mark.

Treatment Finance Options

Pulse Health Finance

Pulse Health Finance provides finance to help people pay for varicose vein treatments and some other procedures such as pelvic vein treatment, Portacaths for cancer treatment, artery surgery and stents.

It offers structured repayment plans, and is an alternative to paying the full cost of treatment upfront. The structured repayments include the cost of finance that is interest and fees.

Patients can apply for a Pulse Health Finance plan and, if approved, agree to a repayment schedule. The loan pay back is in instalments over a set term (e.g, 6–36 months).

Q Card

Q Card is an interest-free retail credit card that lets you buy goods or services now and pay them off over time, often with 0% interest for a fixed promotional period – often between 6–24 months, depending on the repayment plan. If the balance is not fully paid off by the end of the interest-free period, high interest fees may apply. Missed or late payments can trigger extra fees.

Patients can apply for a Q Card account, and if approved, agree to a repayment schedule. The loan pay back is in instalments over a set term (e.g, 6–36 months).

Q Card can be used for medical and elective procedures at participating providers. It is useful if you are confident you can repay the balance within the promotional period.
